The Arts in Our Schools
|
First the art and music classes, then drama
and dance, now sports. Cutbacks and budget reductions all
across America are seeing the Arts lopped from school curricula.
Significant data throughout the last two decades suggests
that these "soft" subjects do more to drive raw
creativity than any other school related curriculum. Why do
we then sacrifice the Arts because economic pressures stifle
the alternatives to finding creative solutions?
Schools, both public and private, face funding
challenges that force their administrations to curtail and
even eliminate entirely classes that foster creativity. Education
in the Arts is falling by the wayside and even great organizations
like Young Audiences can only "expose" the formative
minds of our children. True education comes with increasingly
challenging subject matter, not a once-a-term assembly funded
by agencies outside the school to let students know the Arts
are alive and well - just not in their school!
What can we do about it? ACT is committed
to providing celebrity support to school districts across
America. While specific plans have yet to be formulated, the
commitment to creative learning, the Arts and consequently
the enhancement of our culture are objectives ACT will pursue
with educators and governments at all levels. We intend to
provide the catalyst for local organizations to gain grassroots
support for getting art, music, drama, dance and other creative fields of study reinstituted within our educational institutions
throughout the U.S. We welcome suggestions and leadership!

Fellow Art Patrons,
We
draw many facets of our
society from the
creativity of both our
forefathers and our
contemporary artists -
our architecture, our
manufactured products and
our entertainment. Art is
critical to the
development of culture.
The capability to fuel
the flame of creativity
throughout our
educational system has
made us strong. The more
creative a
youngster's thought
process, the better he or
she is able to grasp
scientific concepts and
better handle complex
problem solving.
However,
we are today at a
crossroads! Our
educational system finds
the arts taking the
economic hit when budgets
must be cut. The intent
of the Art & Culture
Taskforce is to foster
individual and collective
efforts to promote and
expand arts education
throughout our great
country and continue the
tradition of being the
pace setter in the
contemporary world. We
can make a
difference!
